Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio traveled to Japan for their honeymoon in 1954. While there, the Mikimoto firm presented Monroe with a strand of cultured pearls; it was one of the only pieces of fine jewelry she ever owned. The necklace was bequeathed to Paula Strasberg, the wife of her acting coach, and eventually reacquired by Mikimoto in 1998. This 16” choker is one of a limited edition Mikimoto released in 1999. It consists of 49 graduated cultured Akoya pearls with an 18K white gold clasp accented by a single diamond.
