Cartier Art Deco Sapphire and Diamond Stickpin, c. 1920

An elegant Art Deco sapphire and diamond stickpin by Cartier depicts symbols of love and devotion. The pin is topped with a ring of calibré-cut sapphires surrounding an image of clasped hands in chased yellow gold set within a ring of diamonds. A single rose-cut diamond is set on one of the fingers to represent a ring. The uniting of two people in love has historically been represented by entwined hands. The color blue is associated with fidelity and diamonds represent eternal love while the diamond ring on the finger suggests an engagement. The pin comes with its original custom Cartier case.
