Oscar Heyman Brothers Yellow Fancy Intense Diamond and Diamond Bracelet
Oscar Heyman has a long history of creating iconic flower jewels. At the 1939 World’s Fair, Oscar Heyman received the highest honors for its floral designs.
This bracelet incorporates three fundamental Oscar Heyman concepts.
First is the flower. Rather than interpreting flowers loosely or abstractly, Heyman historically treated each blossom as a tiny piece of architecture. The stones and setting actually construct the flower.
Second is color. Oscar Heyman is unusual among the top American houses because colored stones have always been so central to its identity. The company describes its tradition as beginning with the stone, and outside scholarship likewise identifies the House’s sophisticated use of colored gemstones as one of its defining characteristics.
And third is repetition of design. Heyman has a long history of technically sophisticated linked bracelets. The House received a patent for a platinum bracelet link and construction method in 1929, and several of its early patents concerned linked bracelet construction.
This bracelet was commissioned by Tiina Smith especially for us. It consists of 18 flowers alternating between those with yellow diamond centers and white diamond petals and the reverse. This creates rhythm without disturbing the classical character of the piece. The motif repeats but the color relationship reverses. Fancy intense yellow diamonds are particularly effective for this because another gemstone is not being introduced; the entire bracelet remains a diamond jewel.
